The monthly Oqtane Community Standup was held on June 10, 2026. Please note that this was delayed 1 week as Shaun Walker attended Microsoft BUILD in San Francisco on June 3.
Microsoft BUILD
Shaun Walker shared some of his experiences of the Microsoft BUILD conference.
Release Updates
The last official release was 10.2 which was released on May 29, 2026 and was a major release.
- 60 Pull Requests (3546 Total)
- 118 Commits (7866 Total)
- 7 Contributors (58 Total)
Contributors: @sbwalker, @leigh-pointer, @mdmontesinos, @zyhfish, @bvillers-jr, @tvatavuk, @digitalsigi
The next version will be 10.2.1 which will be a maintenance release. It is expected to be released in June 2026.
Scale Out
Scale out (or horizontal scaling) is the process of adding more compute instances to a system to distribute workloads, rather than scaling up a single compute instance. Shaun Walker shared a diagram of the Scale-Out architecture which was the focus of the 10.2 release.

Concurrency
- After the release of 10.2 some additional fine tuning was done to support various concurrency scenarios
- When using scale out, all instances startup at the exact same time (including IHostedServices)
- Random delay at startup can mitigate race condition / thundering herd scenarios
- Some startup logic is singleton in nature (ie. database migrations, etc…) and must be carefully controlled in a distributed environment. This can be accomplished using a shared resource such as a distributed cache (Redis).
Azure
- An explanation of Azure Scale Out configuration was provided, including scaling options
- An explanation of Azure Managed Redis was provided, including cost expectations and how to share a Redis instance across Oqtane installations
R&D
Shaun Walker explained that for the past month he had been doing some research into various AI development approaches, as well as developing a real-world Oqtane application to evaluate the value of Oqtane as a web application framework in the new era of AI.
Demonstration
Shaun Walker did a demonstration of the application he created - which is essentially a LinkedIn clone
